I am using Mandriva 2.007.1 Spring Free with KDE 3.5. I have used kernel linux-2.6.17-*mdv-1-1mdv2007.1.i586, where *=13-19.

Whenever I start the dock it comes up just fine. However, if I select Hide or Hide Automatically (why the difference?), it disappears but reserves the same amount of desktop space it used before and it never comes back. Programs will never use that space again unless I kill the app.

There appears to be no way to reach it. "The ksmoothdock --resetConfig" doesn't do anything. I must always find a service monitor and kill the application there. Then I can start it again.

I should note that my Kicker bar does work correctly with auto-hide. However, once in a while it will hide and not come back without restarting the session. But I am not convinced the two are part of the same problem because they work a little differently and definitely at different times.

Thanks for your help.
