Hi,
when I switch keyboard layout, everything seems to be OK - layout is changed, scroll lock LED indication is working... But the flag (or language code) displayed by KKBSwitch in systray doesn't change at all, there is still the default layout's flag.
And if I open settings dialog, than every time the "Apply" button in this windows is pressed, the flag is updated on it's proper value...

With xorg 7.2 the problem is gone.

    Exactly the same diagnostics!
Whith one more problem - application/window specific layout doesn't work.
    Layout is always global.
    This options is silently ignored.
Actually I need this option (working) even more that indication :)
    I have gentoo(kernel 2.6.21)+kde(3.5.5).
I wander if it's problem of kde?
I've read a few posts about problems with keyboard layouts in kde 3.5.5
