I am using Kile very often, but I am struggling with one point. I don't have

It's not because you are using Kile under Gnome (that should make no
difference). Sadly the feature is not implemented, you see spell checking a
LaTeX document is not quite the same as spell checking ordinary documents
since we need to skip LaTeX commands for example.
