      hi, thank you so much, that was what i was looking for.

      at the end of the latex-document.cwl file:
      ...
      # cmds for the toolbar
      ...

      there is a line with \left{
      and that does not make sense in my opinion.

      Should it be something like \left\lbrace or \left{

      ...and the same for \right}

      Hello,

      these definitions are stored in custom cwl files.
      Search for cwl files on your system, usually located in /usr/share/apps/kile/complete/tex/.

      Grepping for equation yields:
      amsmath.cwl:\begin{equation}
      amsmath.cwl:\begin{subequations}
      amsmath.cwl:\end{equation
      }
      amsmath.cwl:\end{subequations}
      beamerfoils.cwl:\begin{boldequation}*
      beamerfoils.cwl:\begin{boldequation}
      beamerfoils.cwl:\end{boldequation}
      latex-dev.cwl:\theequation
      latex-document.cwl:\begin{equation}
      latex-document.cwl:\end{equation}

      So this environment seems to be only defined in amsmath, therefore go to cnfigure->kile->kile->complete and add amsmath.cwl.

      If you spot an error (wrong command, missing command, etc.) don't hesitate to write a mail to kile-devel@lists.sourceforge.net or open a bug at bugs.kde.org.

      The file specification can be read here http://websvn.kde.org/checkout/trunk/extragear/office/kile/README.cwl?revision=HEAD.
