I recently installed kubuntu 7.04 for amd_64bit with KDE 3.5.6. I have got Genius KB16escroll keyboard. Some (not all) of special keys was working from the beginning. After approx. 5 days of work on kubuntu I run already preinstalled keytouch and created keyboard file with keytouch editor. Every specialkey was perfectly recognised. After closing keytouch, up and down arrow keys stopped working in every application and was not recognised by any (e.g. setting shortcuts in kde apps). Other keys and special keys was ok. xev could read scan codes of arrows properly. After complete uninstall of keytouch and complete reboot arrow keys was again working properly. Unfortunately I did not tested scroll wheel (keyboard wheel functions as arow keys). Keyboard file is attached.

The problem is probably that the scancodes scroll wheel (up and down) are the same as for the up/down arrow keys. So because you included these keys in the keyboard file, keytouch will change their keycode an catch every event caused by the key press. That's why nothing is reported to xev and the kde shortcut app. So the solution is simple: remove the scroll keys from the keyboard file (in fact they are just up/down keys).

But I did not included scroll wheel in the keyboard file, I omited the wheel completely. Please, check the attached keyboard file.

I have checked the keyboard file but thought that you may have omitted the scroll keys because you didn't test them.

Please do the following check with keytouch-editor:
Add the up and down key to the list. Then check what scancode they have, and if keytouch-editor automatically assigned a keycode to them.

Unfortunately I was forced to reinstall my computer so I choosed to install rather new Kubuntu 7.10 than the old 7.04. Keytouch now works perfectly, so the problem is solved.
Just for information, scancode of the scrollwhell is the same as of the up and down keys (200 and 208 respectively). Keytouch doesn't assign keycode to them automatically.
