Hello.

In the "View" -> "Configure Columns" dialog, there is a check box that apply to the selected column, named "Hide data using asterisks".

When checked, effectively all data in the corresponding column are displayed using eight asterisks.

My first idea (but maybe I'm wrong?) is that this is completely useless:
Why would I want to have a column displaying exactly the same thing on all rows, whatever is its actual contents, even if it is empty?

That's why I suggest at least a small improvement (and certainly easy to do):
Displaying the asterisks if and only if the field is not empty and leaving the column blank if the field is empty.

I think this may be useful, for example, for columns that may content long strings not expected to be read in columns, but for which I want to quickly know if data exists for that column or not, without displaying this data. I think for example about "Notes" or "Attachments" columns, or also about some custom fields (I use "Public SSH key" in that category).

I know that I can just narrow the column for getting this information. I just suggest about a nicer alternative to it, and also for giving a real meaning to the "Hide data using asterisks" option.

The point of displaying a column with asterisks is to support clipboard operations (e.g. double-click the password cell to copy the password to the clipboard) and drag&drop.

When hiding using asterisks is enabled, no information should be disclosed. This especially implies that the number of asterisks should not be dependent on the length of the data (and thus especially we must show asterisks also for empty fields).

    Best regards,
    Dominik
