    PART 1:
Restore Windows 7 to Factory defaults DOESN't WORK !

I tried but then gave up but kept partition until I move files off !
Moved failed steps to end of this file.
After installing remix CD on entire drive I installed
VirtualBox 4.2.4 with XP Home and SP3 to have Windows available for specific applications.
At present Nov 1 2012 virtualbox.org was unreachable so I got files with Google to Oracle
4.2.4 base and extensions at Oracle
    Guest additions at archlinux
Enough said back to main attraction.

    Installing ubuntu remix from USB
ISO is KB1OIQ remix CD from sourceforge
    PENDRIVE for Windows
Format USB and install with PENDRIVE

Boot USB by pressing F9 on HP Mini 110 during powerup

Install to Hard Drive from USB with internet available on HARDWIRED ethernet
    boot to system
I logged into my netbook for example as "username@HPnetbook" using SSH to new account
then did SUDO -s to do captures of the information in these notes

    root@HPnetbook:~# uname -a
    Linux HPnetbook 3.0.0-26-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Tue Sep 25 17:20:50 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Add the new username to netdev group to allow using wicd for WiFi & avoid the error message at login

    username@HPnetbook: sudo -s
    root@HPnetbook: gpasswd -a username netdev

    perform packcage update
    apt-get update

    NOTE:
The WiFi card I found was BCM4312 so I needed to use software not already provided

PART 2: done in parts due to spam warning
    NOTE:
The WiFi card I found was BCM4312 so I needed to use software not already provided

    The discussion starts at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx
I found BCM4312 in supported list at http://www.linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Supported_devices

    apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer (see below)

    root@HPnetbook:~# lspci -vvnn | grep 14e4
    01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Connection timed out
    root@HPnetbook:~ lshw -c Network
      *-network UNCLAIMED
           description: Network controller
           product: BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY
           vendor: Broadcom Corporation
           physical id: 0
           bus info: pci@0000:01:00.0
           version: 01
           width: 64 bits
           clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
           configuration: latency=0
           resources: memory:feafc000-feafffff

    Install LP-PHY low power driver

    root@HPnetbook:~# apt-get install firmware-b43-lpphy-installer

    FINALLY !

    Another reference:

You\'ll need to remove network-manager which was needed by original install but now conflicts with wicd

    apt-get remove network-manager
    apt-get -purge autoremove
    /etc/init.d/wicd restart

    Part 3:

    REBOOT

New kernal requried new boot parameter so I did

    update grub

    root@HPnetbook:update-grub

NOTE: Demonstrate reboot then check eth1 wireless is unblocked.
If the blue light is orange then move the right lighted switch.

    apt-get install rfkill
    root@HPnetbook:~# rfkill unblock all
    root@HPnetbook:~# rfkill list all
    0: brcmwl-0: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no
    1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

At this point you can switch to login on screen on netbook
On the bottom is icon for wicd so select and in preferances add wlan0 as wireles then rescan
