The following forum message was posted by ndegendogo at http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/forums/forum/906106/topic/4853030: Hi Joel, 1) you need not activate the new category. The activation is on each single card. The initial state of a card is active when you created it with the magic wand. The initial state of a card is inactive when you created it with the + or the 'copy' icon. You can activate or deactivate a single card while you edit it with the "box" icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the screen. For inactive cards the box is empty; when you touch it, you see a checked box, the card is then active. You can deactivate a single card by touching the checked box. You can also activate *all* cards in a category as follows: - go to the category list - press the "edit" button in the upper right corner - select the category At the bottom you see a checked box and an empty box. Touch the checked box to activate all cards of the category. 2) Unfortunately, the current version of karatasi does not support to merge two categories into one. Hope this helps. Regards, Christa |

The following forum message was posted by bgremler at http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/forums/forum/906106/topic/6659507: I fail to synchronize. Basic connection (host & port) works, but I get an authorization error. A couple month back it worked fine with iPhone settings: device name = [computer_name]\[user] ... with [user] being my Windows logon user Password = my Windows logon password Now I'm getting the authorization error showing in the desktop log: INFO: 401 Unauthorized: by client /192.168.1.2:49666: Authentication failed. (requested URI: /list?version=3&device=[computer_name]%5C[user]) I see that the backslash got replaced with %5C and that seems to be the problem. Is there a basic (java) setting that I have to do so that the backslash comes over as backslash? I tried without success: device name = [computer_name] device name = [user] device name = [computer_name]/[user] ... with my Windows password and without password. I got Windows 7; latest Karatasi versions; java.runtime.version=1.6.0_38-b05, iPhone 4S Thanks for your help. |

The following forum message was posted by ndegendogo at http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/forums/forum/906105/topic/5518930: I have discussed this issue with Christian Hujer: - the currently planned solution to extend the database with fields of the same contents but converted to all-lower characters (see tracker #3555187) is no good idea, because introduces redundant data with the inherent risk of an inconsistent database. - a better solution would be to use a "folded" string in the search statement. TODO: find out if this is supported in SQLite. - the concept of "upper-case letters" versus "lower-case letters" is common in European alphabets. Asian alphabets often don't know this concept. However, in Unicode this concept is present, so a Unicode-encoded string can be converted to lower case (or to upper case) independent of the language. - most APIs offer functions like toUpper() / toLower() for Unicode strings. TODO: find out if this is true for Java, and how these functions can be used. TODO: find out if this is true for Objective C, and how these functions can be used. |

The following forum message was posted by ndegendogo at http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/forums/forum/906105/topic/5518930: Currently, the full text search in karatasi is case-sensitive. This simplification was chosen intentional, because a case-insensitive search is hard - I have no idea how to do it. The key problem is to find a conversion algorithm for every string into a case-insensitive format (e.g. all letters converted to caps, or all letters converted to the small letter). This algorithm must work for all UNICODE letters, not only for the ASCII letters. It must be implementable in Objective C and in Java. Does anybody have an idea on this? Christa |

I have forgotten to mention that I have no jailbroken iPhone 4. I need to use notebook screen to see and control my original iPhone4. So I would like to run karatasi from notebook screen using notebooks keyboard + mouse. Then to fiil in karatasi fields. Close to my idea is Java desktop application which is used to sync karatasi files between notebook and iPhone. But there is no possibility to edit records. I browsed internet, but there are solutions only to control your PC via iPhone. |

The following forum message was posted by sidneyf at http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/forums/forum/906105/topic/4550074: Hello thickasabrick25, I am not sure if I fully understand your question, but the answer may be an app called "Veency" which turns your iPhone into a VNC (Virtual Network Computing) Server. You will also need a VNC Viewer on your notebook. I am running under Windows 7 and use "TightVNC" as the viewer. Once you have both both software pieces installed you will be able to run your iPhone from your notebook including using the keyboard to enter data on the iPhone. You can find lotsa information on Youtube and Google. The bad news: Veency is only available as a Cydia application so you have to jailbreak your phone to install it. Gotcha#1: Veency runs in background so you won't see it as an icon on your iPhone screen, but TightVNC will find it. Gotcha#2: You may need to go into your iPhone settings under Veency and turn off "Show Cursor" to get you notebook keyboard to work. Sidney |

How did you perform the synch exactly - did you use iTunes? As far as I know, iTunes can synch all applications, but it can synch user data only for applications issued by Apple. Please try our karatasi Java application http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/files/karatasi.java/ to transmit karatasi data files from iPhone to the desktop, and then from the desktop to the iPad. Note that a direct connection from iPhone to iPad is not supported. Christa |

Please be aware that it is resonable to activate a large number of cards on one day only if you know most of them - else you will get an overwhelming workload. How to activate all cards in a category on the iPhone: - select the database and see the list of categories - press the 'Edit' button, then select the category - on the bottom you see a checked square (activate all cards) and an empty square (deactivate all cards). The following forum message was posted by ndegendogo at http://sourceforge.net/projects/karatasi/forums/forum/906106/topic/4091412: Hi weissnicht, the key points to get a successfull connection between the iPhone and the Java application are: 1) On the iPhone, start the application 'Settings' (in German: 'Einstellungen', das Icon mit den Zahnrädern). Here you find a section with settings for every app, also for karatasi. Setup the following values: a) Protocol: select 'karatasi Java' German: Protokoll b) Host: this setting is very important. It must be the IP address of your PC where the Java application is running. Alternatively you may use the name of this PC as it is known in the WLAN router. German: Rechnername You see the IP address for a MAC-OS system if you type from the command line ifconfig For a Windows system you type from the command line ipconfig Example output on my MAC: kiri$ ifconfig lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether 00:16:cb:c9:40:38 media: autoselect status: inactive fw0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 2030 lladdr 00:16:cb:ff:fe:61:20:c0 media: autoselect <full-duplex> status: inactive en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 ether 00:16:cb:b8:61:f9 inet6 fe80::216:cbff:feb8:61f9%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x6 inet 192.168.22.76 netmask 0xffffff80 broadcast 192.168.22.127 media: autoselect status: active In this example the correct address is 192.168.22.76 Get support from a network expert if you are not sure. Note: If your WLAN router uses dynamic adresses, then your PC will get a new IP address every time. Try the PC name in this case. Note: Some WLAN routers do not know the PC name. Try the IP address in this case. If possible, configure the router to use fixed IP addresses. c) Port: Also this setting is important. It must be the same Port as you have configured in the Java application. To find out, start the Java application and press the 'Start' button. You see the yellow status button 'Server idle' at the top, and a message like: 'INFO: bound to port 8088' at the bottom. Use this number. If the status button turns not yellow, you must first find a free port for the Java application. See 2a) German: Port d) Device name: choose any name you like. German: Gerätename e) Password: use any password you like, but remember it. Note: delete the dots first before you enter your password. German: Passwort 2) On the Java application, select the menu File / Settings (in German: 'Datei / Einstellungen') and setup the following values: a) Network Settings / sync server network port: use the *same* port as in 1c) German: Netzwerkeinstellungen / Netzwerk-Port für Datenbank-Übertragung Note: if the pre-configured port is not free, you must first find a free port. Just try! As soon as you press the 'Done' button, and then the 'Start' button, you see if it turns yellow. b) Authorized device / Name: use the *same* name as in 1d) German: Gerätedaten / Name c) Authorized device / Password: use the *same* password as in 1e) German: Gerätedaten / Passwort 3) Now you can try: a) In Java, press the 'Start' button. See the yellow status button 'Server idle' at the top, and a message like: 'INFO: bound to port 8088' at the bottom. b) on the iPhone, launch the karatasi app, and press the 'synch' icon - the zigzag arrow in the lower left corner. c) look for error messages in Java. d) If everything is fine, go to the iPhone and press the 'synch' icon - the zigzag arrow down at the center position. 4) Troubleshooting: a) status button in Java is not yellow? => press the 'Start' button. => find a free port, see 2a) b) no connection, and no error message in Java? => verify the settings 1a), 1b), 1c), 1d), 2b) => check if your firewall is open for your application => check the WLAN c) no connection but error message in Java (scroll the window to see all messages): INFO: 401 Unauthorized: by client /0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1%0:50378: Authentication failed. => check the password 1e), 2c) Good luck!
