After clicking in the menu bar on Settings/Player Engine/Embedded Media Player I could play DVDs anymore and the Player menu disappeared. There is apperently to way in restalling the original settings from within the program Kaffeine.
Removing and reinstalling the program does not help.
Finally I figured out that I could reinstall the original settings bij deleting ~/.kde/share/config/kaffeinerc. and everything works like before.
The menu Settings suggest that you can change some functionality. Normaly you should also be able to change it back to the state before, either by choosing default or by reentering the original values.
