Pure Java Z3950 Tookit / News: Recent posts

DB Utils module changes.

The utils module is currently being restructured so it no longer contains a duplicate of the code from the RPNQueryRep package. As soon as the package is removed from CVS, developers should start to check out ki-dbutil instead of the "util". jzkit will also become ki-jzkit and other top level cvs directories will be accessible through a ki-prefixed module. This will enable easier integration with gump based build systems and more flexibility for code restructuring in the future.

JZKit/Swing : Z39.50 Information Retrieval Client Kickoff

A new repository is now available under CVS for the JZKit project: SearchSwingClient. This Java application will be a functional information retrieval client based around the IR layer of the Z39.50 toolkit. The initial upload contains our exploratory work connecting the InformationFragmentSource interface with a JTable Data Model, but expect an initial client to be uploaded very soon. Planned developments include MDI (Internal Frame) frameworks, document ordering and non-Z39.50 datasource integration.

Milestone 3 - Rough release ahead

Hi All.
Milestone 3 is now available. A much debugged, slightly better performing release of the toolkit. The IR interfaces are also coming along nicely, expecially the new Result set architecture, which I hope will enable pluggable chains of result set filters.

The release is tagged in cvs as "milestone3". From this point on, you are going to need to have access to the W3C DOM package (org.w3c.dom), specifically, the Document interface. Upcoming changes to the InformationFragment interface will allow access to the actual binary record returned (For example, a MARC record) and provide a getDocument method for a common internal representation of InformationFragments.... read more

Milestone 1 complete

The sample client is now capable of connecting to, searching and displaying (sutrs) records. The encoding layer seems to be quite efficient and compares well with the C equivalents . Will try to have a formal release over the next few days. CVS tag for this pre-alpha is milestone1.
