I had been using a little, independently distributed program called cle (google "cle readline", or apt-get install it on Debian). rlfe has the major advantage that it's smart about application prompts (cle will jump over the prompt if you, eg, press ctrl-a to go to the beginning of the line). It has the disadvantage that it doesn't write out history, but I expect that would be easy to fix. From my brief experimentation, I don't find any other flaws. > Everything works as expected. The integrated version is better in principle, because it can be application or context sensitive, but given the bugs and limitations in the Java readline library, and that Jython doesn't make much use of the integration, rlfe is a much better option right now.
