Python Programming Patterns Thomas W. Christoper Prentice Hall $49.99 US/530 pages I found Python Programming Patterns is an excellent book for learning object oriented programming in Python. The book presents 20 object-oriented programming patterns with examples in Python. Patterns are a way to describe a common software development process in terms of something you can repeat to be more efficient. For example, many times a test script written in Python will need to sort through a list of URLs. In this case the book shows simple repeatable techniques for writing Python scripts that work on lists. Python seemed to be a pretty weak language for doing object-oriented programming compared to Java or C++. This book gives a good introduction to OO programming and shows some simple techniques that make Python's OO capabilities look pretty good. Other books I found useful on Jython and Python are listed at: http://www.pushtotest.com/ptt/faq.html#scripting -Frank -- Frank Cohen, Founder, http://www.PushToTest.com, phone: 408 374 7426 PushToTest offers free open-source test software and global services solutions that test, monitor and automate Web Service systems for functionality, scalability and performance. |
