It seems that Jython has another importer for .zip files. http://www.jython.org/javadoc/org/python/modules/zipimport/zipimporter.html

Hi all,

I have created a jar file from sympy for jython 2.5.1 successfully. The
only thing that went wrong was the statement:

import unicodedata

which tried get_data on the module loader (in my case the builtin
ClasspathPyImporter). Unfortunately this loader does not have this
method. Is there a reason for it or ist simply a bug (essentially I
think implementing it should be trivial, just delegating to Javas class
loader)?
