As I remember it, Apress was originally interested in a book about using Django with Jython. As the project grew and more authors were introduced, we determined that it made more sense to write a book about Jython in general, and include some bits of Django. Apress added the "with Django" suffix to the title as the project authors originally decided on "The Definitive Guide to Jython". My guess is that your assumption is correct...this was added by Apress as a marketing strategy.
