I am addicted to use vi when developing code. In other words when vi mode is
not working I cannot use the editor efficiently (even thinking about change
ide!!).
For using netbeans the jvi plugin is very important.

Recently I discovered that suddenly de vi mode stopped while the jvi checkbox
was on in the tools menu. I do not remember it exactly but it started from
using vesion 7.1 or 7.2

Normally one can solve this by un-check, check the check box in the tools menu,
and jvi is working again. This happens when eg a change in the tools->options
key bindigs is done.

Lately we change to use GIT in our SCM environment. I discovered that the vi
mode is now disfunctioning more times.

To resolve this vi mode disfunction I have to remove my netbeans settings
~/.netbeans/<version>

Then restart netbeans, install my plugins again and import my options.

this is of course very annoying.
When it happens once a week, no problem, but several times a day ....

I cannot recognize if the problem is in the jvi plugin or netbeans ide.

    What version of jVi?
    What JVM, OS and WindowManager?

What do you mean when you say "suddenly vi mode stopped"

Are there any exceptions in the NetBeans log?

    -------------------------------------------------
    jVi Version Information
Running: jVi 1.4.7 (This is the latest release)
    -------------------------------------------------
The reason for stopping vi mode, is possibly in my options.zip file.
I took this options from earlier netbeans versions.

Filling in this options to my needs is a lot of work. eg code formatting for C C++ C/C++ headers!! why not 1 code style for C,C++ and headers.
    some custom colors etc,
I was doing this right now, and discovered that the options are not saved when restarting netbeans.
Also I cannot fillin key mappings, since when I click on the keymap nothing happens.
    Considering a re-install of netbeans.

Did you check the NB logfile for exceptions? Best would be to take a look at the log shortly after jVi stops working. The most recent/current log file is <userdir>/var/log/messages.log.

Does jVi work after the restart after importing the variables?

Does Tools>jVi checkbox work before jVi stops?

    I don't understand about
    1) options are not saved when restarting netbeans
    2) click on keymap, nothing happens
(Is this is the NetBeans keymap? not the jVi mappings)
Is 1) and 2) after jVi stops working? These don't seem to have anything to do with jVi.

Did you check the NB logfile for exceptions?
<< I attached the logfile to this issue. An I see NULL exceptions.

Does jVi work after the restart after importing the variables?
<< I fact a few weeks ago it happens once and a while,
<< but a few days ago it happens dayly and yesterday it occurs every time
    << after importing my options.zip.

Does Tools>jVi checkbox work before jVi stops?
    << yes

    I don't understand about
    1) options are not saved when restarting netbeans
    << I removed ~/.netbeans/<version dir>,
<< start netbeans, installed plugings, changed eg font in the
<< netbeans options window, select OK, and exit netbeans. after starting netbeans
<< the font was not wat I sel before.
    2) click on keymap, nothing happens
(Is this is the NetBeans keymap? not the jVi mappings)
<< this is the Netbeans->options->Keymap button. (not jVi)
Is 1) and 2) after jVi stops working?
    << see comment before.
    !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I installed the Nebeans 7.2.1/Jdk 7 BUNDLE. installed the plugins and did NOT
import my options, but re-doing the options settings by hand. (previous I only installed netbeans)
    Now the problem seems disappeared.

I would suggest to not ( or postpone) to put more effort in this ticket until the
    problem rises again.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

If things start getting crazy again, you could check the log right away. All the "NULL PTR" exceptions have to do with hints. Seems unrelated, but who knows.

    Good luck with this install.

Looks like there was a problem with the install and options. Note that things other than jVi were affected.

    Closing...
