If I could download a whole archive of messages, my mail reader can read them in and integrate them with the new one, so that it looks like I watched the whole list from the very beginning. Then there is no difference between old (from the archive) and new (arrived per email) messages. When I search messages about a specific theme, I can do it once and get all results in one go instead of searching my mails and additionally searching on gmane. And - as I said - no load on any network connection, no load on any server, no problems with internet connections. It's all local. The obvious disadvantage is that it takes some space on my hard disk, but since it's text only, it is not much. Well, it's just an idea. D. |
