Thanks a lot! Did this happen two weeks ago? Because that's when we started having trouble as Firefox randomly stopped working with JMol at the CASTEP workshop... it was driving me mad. Is there any way to do this change through Javascript that you know of? I fear not, but if there is something... thanks!

Might be old news, but there's a change in Firefox with  version 23.0.1:

If you want to use a local signed or unsigned applet (file://.../JmolAppletSigned.jar, for instance), then you need to set

   security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy;false

since the default is true.  Something like the issue here:
