Yea, I could do that.  But, it seems that there is support for cygwin, someone somewhere has gotten it to work.

VirtualBox is free (virtualbox.org), only takes seconds to setup, and you really only need 768MB or 1GB of RAM for basic compiling and testing. (I more commonly use 2GB-4GB but I tend to use large heaps).
