I have been sharing ext2 file systems using NFS (I've started to look at Intermezzo) with linux pc and Solaris 8 Ultra 30 and 60 clients for over a year. Recently, I have been testing a JFS file system and have had no problems with the linux pc clients but ran into a problem with the Solaris workstations. I could mount the fs from Solaris ok, but had a problem listing the dirs. The top level listed ok, but when I got down a few levels into the tree (this wasn't always at the same dir level), ls hosed the NFS server process. I discovered that there was incomplete user info in the NFS server's passwd file - the users were not set up; the server was just using UID's for file ownership. After adding the user to the server, I was able to ls his dirs from the Solaris boxes. After adding the rest of the users to the server and running pwck and pwconv on client and server, I could su - to other users and traverse their NFS dirs and list files using ls. But, after testing one user, the second one again hoses the NFS server. Once this happens, I'm unable to ls the dirs even from the server! I have to go to single user mode in order to reboot the server. This is happening on 3 NFS servers: SuSE 2.4.16 kernel with JFS 1.0.17 2.4.18 kernel with JFS 1.0.17 SuSE 2.4.10 kernel with JFS 1.0.5 No errors are logged in the var/log/messages file.Has anyone else seen problems sharing jfs over nfs with Sun workstations?
