Sorry Dirk, I guess I wasn't clear the first time. The CVS_RSH variable that I referred to IS the program option in jCVS, not the Linux environment variable. As per Mike's suggestion, I tried running tcpdump and confirmed that port 22 is being used. I wasn't able to learn anything useful from the log, though. The 514 mentioned in a previous post is not my UID. I have confirmed that it is the default port (in com.ice.jcvsii.default.properties) that jCVS tries to use with the "server" protocol. I've been poking around a bit in the code, but haven't yet figured out why it's using that instead of my user ID. I'll play with it a little more, but if I can't figure it out soon I may have to drop it as well (which would be a real shame; it's a nice little Java app). I'm using "server" rather than "pserver". The > CVS_RSH variable is set to "ssh". Setting CVS_RSH alone does not work. There is an option for the rsh executable in the program options. Set this to a fully specified path to ssh, e.g. "/usr/bin/ssh". Btw.: jCVS changes the CVS/Root entry to :server:dmo...@cv...:/cvsroot/jedit instead of dmo...@cv...:/cvsroot/jedit This breaks other cvs tools, especially 'cvs' itself. This is why I dumped jCVS.
