Ok, still not completely certain what you want, so let me know how this sounds. I'm guessing you'd like to popup some sort of dialog window with the 2 drop down lists, and once you've selected the two files you want to compare, you click a button "Compare" which will then pass the two file paths on to some 3rd party process. Is that correct? If so, you should definitely take a look here: Swing Dialog Tutorial: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/dialog.html Same Tutorial, more specific: (How to get user input from a dialog) http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/dialog.html#input If you want to show two drop down menus in one window, that'll be a custom job. However, you could do this more simply by showing one Dialog for file1 and another for file2. I hope this helps, but let me know if I can help further. I'll try to come up with a script to help you with the dialog part, but you'll have to tell me how you pass the file paths to your 3rd party program. Eric -- Learn from the past. Live in the present.
