Yes it is confusing, but it would be worse, if one lost results of previous searches (I often use them later). By the way there is a toggle multiple results on the top right corner. Try it ! I think a red (or other high colour) 'Not found' title would be better. Optionally jEdit can beep or show a warning dialog when hypersearch not found anything.
