This is probably a Java bug. But, I'll toss it out, and hopefully
someone has an idea for me.

Focus Model is Mouse Focus
Linux 2.6.11-gentoo-r7 #11 SMP Tue Dec 6 16:42:02 NZDT 2005 x86_64 AMD

1. Open aterm
2. highlight some text with the mouse
3. focus on a jEdit window
4. press middle mouse button
Sometimes this works perfectly pasting the selected text. Sometimes, I
get a console beep and nothing is pasted. I thought I narrowed it down
to when I Alt-Tab'ed from the aterm window to the jEdit window. But, on
further tries, this doesn't seem to be the case.
When it fails to paste, as a workaround, I am able to open a mail
(thunderbird), or im (gaim) window and middle mouse press paste there.
Then, I can ctrl-x to cut the text, and ctrl-v to paste in jedit. Bit
of a pain, but it works when I just don't want to type
Incidentally, I'm not able to middle mouse paste on Intellij IDEA at all
(but i think that's because it's no supported in my version.) I can
middle mouse paste from thunderbird, and firefox to jEdit reliably.
Seems it might be related to aterm somehow.
