It looks like our previous release manager, Vampire, is no longer doing releases. I am very sad to announce this. His contributions to jEdit have been numerous and much appreciated. I am not sure exactly why, but he has not responded to any of my e-mails or IMs, so I am assuming he is out of the picture. This means no releases of jEdit will happen until someone else volunteers. --Alan |

I've been able to create the release packages in the past, and indeed done some of the Mac ones for Vampire when his VM wasn't working, but I've always had issues with the Windows one since I'm on a mac. I had it working for a while using wine, I would have to work on getting it working again, and get some folks to test the files once they're done, but would be worth it I think. I also don't know what to do with the files once they've been created. If someone knows what to do here I'm willing to try generating the files. I'm strapped for time for the next few days since we just started a new project at work, but can start on it this weekend. Regardless, I know it's been said before, but it would be good to have one or more extra people besides Vampire who know how to do the releases. I think we can use the daily build server to make the windows binaries. It is already setup for that. My problem is making the mac packages, and also I never got around to figuring out how to sign the debian packages. I think that's one step that right now nobody but vampire (or another debian developer) can do at the moment. After the files are created, adding them to the file release system of jEdit is fairly striaghtforward. Alas, there were a lot of documents on a wiki which no longer exists, and some of that would be relevant for doing releases (iirc). I think vampire had a backup of the wiki data but never got around to making it available. :) Yep, that's how I got the exe building before, but also from that document is the issue with the debian packages. Anyone else besides Vampire have the Release.gpg, or secring.gpg files mentioned there? If so, I should be able to generate all the files, or as Alan mentioned we could do most of them on the daily-build server (this might be preferable), then anyone with a Mac and Java6 installed could generate the final Mac package. Was able to work on this some tonight, and I was able to get it building the windows package on my Mac. So, I can generate all the packages, I'm just not able to do the debian signing part. As it's 1:30am now, I'll look into this as soon as I get some more time. If anyone knows of a quick how-to, that would help a ton. Otherwise, I'll look into it later, but once I have that I should be able to do all the packages and would be willing to try my hand at putting together a release. Thanks, and goodnight. Hey guys, I went through the process and created the tag, but I ran into an issue with launch4j. I'm not sure where this stuff lives in the jEdit structure, but it's complaining about the "wrong cpu type". The odd thing is when I run dist against trunk (setting the version to 4.3 final), I don't have any problems. I see the exe file being generated using launch4j. I don't want to sift through all the differences between the 5.2.x branch and trunk - does anyone know where I can start? -- Learn from the past. Live in the present. Work towards the future. I'm pretty sure that it's something Vampire did that has not been merged into trunk yet, as you are also thinking. here are the changelog entries for them. Basically, if someone opens a merge request, I can merge them. But I don't know which revision numbers they are. I'd have to dig into it to figure that out. - Configure the JUnit task to fork off the Ant process, with manually adding the needed Ant libraries. This ensures that there are no unwanted classpath entries during test execution (Plugin Bug #1732 - Björn "Vampire" Kautler) - Upgrade Launch4J to the latest version 3.5.0. This makes it possible to UTF-8 encode the config file and build the EXE launcher on Mac OS again, removing the need for Rosetta being installed, which is not supported anymore anyway since Mac OS 10.7. Hi Eric, thanks a lot for your efforts to release 5.2! Downloads on sourceforge are not yet functioning for me. 10h ago the 5.2.0 folder appeared empty. Now, it has all the right files but they are not downloadable. I can click the Info button, which says "This file will be ready for download shortly." in the URL field and that 20 mirrors have the file. Cheers, |

Thanks Eric, Yep, it seems SF is having some issues. I'm in IRC with an admin right now, there are at least 2 other users reporting the same issue. Files are getting stuck in "pending" mode. Will report back when things get fixed. Thanks! Hey guys, thanks for doing the release this time. I'm really sorry I wasn't around, but a serious illness caught me quite some time and I had no internet access. I'm well again now and can do future releases again. But I'm glad all went well. I'll have a look at the debian repository files soon and update them for the new release. Thanks Vampire, I'm glad you're feeling better. Please let me know if I did anything incorrectly. I think it's a good idea for multiple people to be able to do releases so there's less pressure on any one person, and the community doesn't get stuck accidentally. Definitely, that's why I wrote the step-by-step releasing-jedit.txt with which most people with access should be able to do the release easily by following step for step. So, finally I reviewed your release Eric. All in all, everything seems to be fine. Just some minor glitches. - Release.gpg was missing, but that is ok, as you produce warnings if you change the signing key. I uploaded the correct signing file and now all Debian updates should go through smoothly - Why did you check-in releasing-jedit.txt? This is not mentioned in releasing-jedit.txt because is not meant to be done. You don't even have to save the file. The variable substitution is solely for easier copy & paste usage. Checking in the replaced file makes it useless for further releases. - The fixes in CHANGES.txt according to 2. were not done (one newline is missing, an empty section was not removed, the version was not set to the final version as it was no pre-release anymore [while the last point was fixed by Alan just in time :-)]) - file sizes and page amounts were not corrected on download.html according to 9. - web changes were not checked into SVN according to 9. ( https://sourceforge.net/p/jedit/svn/HEAD/tree/www/trunk/htdocs/) - IRC channel topic was not updated according to 12. - Community Page Start Page News were not written according to 13. Other than that, everything seems to be fine, thanks again for doing the release.
