Currently saving (or opening) a new buffer on Windows defaults to C:\Windows\system32\, which I NEVER use to store text files.

It would be more appropriate for first-use to have a settable default, and then reset that location to the most-recently-used buffer location each time a new buffer is opened or saved. Actually, that behavior should be preferenced too (e.g., vfs.update.recent=1).

So, I want to set a default buffer open/save location to c:\developer\doc and when I click open, JEdit will list that directory. If I then navigate to c:\Users\landru\Desktop\compares\ and open a file, the default would be changed to that location. If I then create a new buffer and click Save, it would open the dialog in c:\Useres\landru\Desktop\compares\ because that was the most-recently used location.

Unless - I have set "vfs.update.recent=0", in which case it just reopens to c:\developer\doc.

  • Maybe ~/.jedit/recent.xml would be handy here?
  • Maybe VFSBrowser would not unset vfs.browser.path.tmp?
  • Maybe default location could just be vfs.favorite.0

Thanks

  • I think UI for this should be in the VFSBrowser's favorites editor.

Under Global Options - File System Browser - General, you have an option,
    "Default Path:"
What is it set to for you at the moment?

Workaround: set the default path to "Most Recently Used directory"
