Add a 2nd Hypersearch results pane, and a control to select which to use in search dialog.

I sometimes need to do a big search on all source files in my project for a word. Then, when in each file that contains that word, search for some other word. Once I've worked in that file, I want to go back to the big all-project search and jump to the next file. For example, search for all occurrences of a class to find everywhere that the class is instanced. Within each file that creates an instance, hyper-search in that file for all references to the instance. Go to next file, wash, rinse, repeat.

Unfortunately, the big all-project search takes a very long time, so I don't really want to have to re-run it after the secondary searches. It would be nice if, like Dismal-Studio, jEdit offered a pair of HyperSearch Result panes that I could select between, so I could leave the big search open in pane1 while I do the sub-project searches in pane2, for example.

Have you tried the XSearch plugin? It has its own XHyperSearchResults pane.

I find no XSearch plugin in Plugin Manager using 5.1pre1.

it needs to be updated to the 5.1 API and released still.
I attached a pre-release of it to this ticket.

Also, if you just want to avoid repeating a search, you can do that with the "Toggle Multiple Results", which allows you to do more searches without losing the results of your original search.

    Patrick,

Is "Toggle Multiple Results" an XSearch feature, or am I just missing something?

It's a button in the regular hypersearch pane, not in XSearch.

Oh, good grief!! Who put such a valuable feature on a completely nondescript button? There should, at least, be a default setting preference in the options, or something! If I had known that was there, it would have been on years ago!

OK, sorry for the frustration coming through.

Thank you Patrick for pointing out that very valuable feature of Hypersearch.
