I am working with an Amazon / Ubuntu EC2 server via SFTP and using Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop with OpenJDK7. If I am working locally, no problem, all fine.

If I connect to SFTP, or I load JEdit with the file manager /favorites holding an SFTP URI in buffer / load config, I get the same repeated jedit.io errors as on the attached screen shot.

JEdit eventually resolves the problem after about 30 secs or so and frees up. If I click on 'Utilities' and scroll the menu, it hangs again on either 'favorites' or 'recent files'. Again, it eventually frees up. Also, when navigating the remote server, it does the same on every click.

I have searched for earlier bugs, using 'SFTP' and found that similar has been reported at times. Thinking that perhaps the fixes that were put into Version 5.0 have not quite resolved things.

Sorry guys. Looks like good work has been done so far. :)

Please try FTP 1.0.5. Do you still have this issue?

    Yay! It works! Thanks ezust.

I needed to do a few tweaks to the install / re-install process. Might be worth documenting a few notes (with tips) for anyone else who runs into this problem, or similar:

    1. Tried FTP upgrade first to test it without changing other variables ... Jedit locked for me when i tried the initial FTP plugin manager / upgrade path. So I went for a Jedit upgrade.

    2. All the usual software/apt packages leave a hidden directory in the home folder '.jedit' ( ctrl -h in nautilus) This needed removing for me to get the upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 to run and not lock.

    3. I needed to install with Ubuntu s/w manager (not dpkg) to get the launcher icon to register properly. (A little Unity problem)

    4. With a clean .jedit folder I added the FTP plugin. I followed the helpful splash notes that show with a clean install (new?).

A little note here, for people is that the port number needs adding to the server IP address, in the FTP UI. I use a non-standard port for extra security, not 22. People using 22 maybe okay ... (maybe to add officially?)

    i.e. nn.nn.nn.nn:123

    After this, everything worked!

5.0 had some bugs related to unloading plugins that made updating plugins cause jEdit to enter into an inconsistent state requiring a restart of jEdit. jEdit 5.1 should be better about that.
