It would be nice if compressed files (zip, rar, tar, tar.gz, tgz, ...) could be linked through a new "file type" entry that could be called "compressed files".

This of course can be handled through the "manage external file types" window, but it would nice not to create an entry per extension, i.e. one type should match several extensions, e.g. "compressed files" would match "zip, rar, 7z, tar.gz, ...".
