Would it be possible to have some kind of string
management:
-They are convert to their value in the listing view
(especially for authors and reviews)
-They appear in one color when they exist and in flashy
red when they do not exist.
-They can have different type author, review, ...

This feature would be very welcome in the entry preview
(below the listing)!

WinBibDB have this feature in the preview, and it is very
useful. I would love to see it in JabRef. For example, I don't
remember what jmfmam or jifmim is when I read the
preview.
They are defined in the strings-part of the file, so there is no
problem checking it, but it would be easier to see it
immediately in the preview. The fact that I forget their
definition is not a question of bad or good string, I of course
remember the strings when I see the journal-name of the
paper when I enter them.
Same for month-strings, but not as important.
Otherwise a great program!

I second this request.
It would also be nice that together with this one could link
independent files containing only string definitions.
I already do this manually, as journals have different
requirements (e.g. some want abbreviated journal names,
other full names). I just keep separate versions of the
string definitions and load the corresponding one with the
references file.
So the choice of which string definition files to link would
complement this nicely, without having to actually import
the strings into the reference database.
