Hello,
I wish I could use @patent as an entry type since it
is a type of reference which is often encountered in my
field (Chemistry & Chemical Engineering)
Thank for the great job you did developping JabRef.

    Why don't you define it as a custom entry type?

    For a possible addition in future versions: what are the
    required and optional fields for this entry type?

    Hi,
    I had the very same problem, and I found that the use of
    @PATENT entry type is not recommended.
    The solution I found most often, and which I currently
    adopt, is using the @MISC entry type, storing the patent
    number and country in the howpublished field. See the
    example below:
    @MISC{Quallich2000,
    author = {Quallich, George Joseph},
    title = {{E}nantioselective oxazaborolidine catalysts},
    howpublished = {United States Patent 6,037,505},
    month = {March},
    year = {2000},
    }

    I also modified accordingly one of the preview layout.
