If your SMTP relay server is very strict and your JTrac server is unable to set the FQDN correctly you'll get something like:

Mar 22 09:23:58 habanero postfix/smtpd[4588]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from a.b.c.d.ip.domainname.tld[a.b.c.d]: 504 5.5.2 <sawtooth>: Helo command rejected: need fully-qualified hostname; from=<bugs@domainname.tld> to=<user@domainname.tld> proto=ESMTP helo=<sawtooth>

The Java Mail library has an override for the HELO setting - mail.smtp.localhost (see http://java.sun.com/products/javamail/javadocs/com/sun/mail/smtp/package-summary.html\) that allows you to override what will be sent in the HELO command to the SMTP server. It would be great if JTrac could support that as one of the mail related config params.
