I have allowed com+ and WMI service within windows firewall following the instruction in http://www.j-interop.org/quickstart.html. But it does't work. Now I have error info which is "The RPC server is unavailable." I am sure RPC server is running since if I turn off the firewall everything works properly. How to solve it?

    • Hi,

Well, its a little more complicated than that. The thing is the RPC server
will get launched on the Target machine on a random port and this
information is then conveyed back to the client (as a Marshalled Interface
pointer). Now since the port is random one and the Firewall is configured
to block such ports (even when WMI,COM+ are open) this situation will
arise. You can allow the firewall to work with a range of ports and then
use DCOMConfig to work with the Target server to only bring up its
Endpoints within that port range. Please have a look at MSDN for more
      information.

      thanks,
      best regards,
      Vikram

Thx. After openning ports from 49152-65535 now my program works well without using DCOMConfig . I hope this thread can help other people as well. Thanks again!
