daemon option

Hi,
Some months ago, I had done a little patch for version 1.0.5 that implement
the daemon mode. In essence, they close the connection and all the rest
but maintain the configuration with the password inserted from the user.
Now, I have downloaded the git version because there are many improvements
but the code is quite different so the previous patch doesn't apply.
Is there a simple way to add this function (permanently?) in the code?
(yes, I have already seen that this topic is in the todo list :)
Some suggestion to start?
