I seem to be misunderstanding something here:

Firewire seems to work OK, and i can hardrake has recognised that an ipod is connected, but I don't know where to mount it from.

Conventional wisdom suggests it should be at /dev/sda0/, but I have no /dev/sd* tree on my system (Mandrake 9.2)

The ipod is a windows/mac ipod - I presume I need to reformat it as a FAT device, but I can't do this until I mount it (I presume?)

Apols if this is a dumb question, but I'd be grateful for some pointers

    John

There will be no need to reformat the ipod as fat once you get it working as there is a hfsplus driver for linux with full rw support :).

Anyway, you can find out what the iPod's device is by looking at your dmesg (just type dmesg | less). The partition you want to mount should be something like /dev/sda3.

Okay, I also had this problem. I tried mounting everything from sda0-5 and sdb0-5 as I have 2 firewire busses (audigy and onboard). I get a worrying looking dmesg output (sorry it's so long but it's the end I think is the bad bit):

What do all these "kobject_register failed for ohci1394" mean?
If i disconnect my ipod and reboot I get kudzu popping up to tell me an SCSI device called "iPo" has been removed, so I know the machine sees it. I have IEEE1394 support enabled in the kernel too. anyone know whats going on?

could it be because I have "Ethernet over 1394" on aswell?
