Does Inkscape have an autosave feature? I thought not, but searching
finds some oblique references to such a thing. Generally I have found
Inkscape reliable enough that autosave is not necessary, but I've just
lost about 40 minutes work with this message:
The application 'inkscape' lost its connection to the display :0.0;
most likely the X server was shut down or you killed/destroyed
Any idea what's going on there? It could be that the fault is with the
X server, which suggests that Inkscape needs autosave even if it is
One of the search results for "inkscape autosave" mentions something
about autosave in response to SEGV and similar. Perhaps what's
necessary is for an unexpected X server disconnection to be treated in
the same way.

Look for an SVG file in your home directory.
