It's still in a rudimentary conceptual stage, but I wrote about some
thoughts on writing my own IMAP server in my blog:
Basic idea is that there's only so much I can do with PHP and IMAP
before things get intolerably slow (in fact, I've almost hit that
limit). The only good solution is to write my own mail server, and have
the mail server take over some of the more CPU-intensive functionality.
Really, this is something that I'll be working on (if at all) over the
next couple of years, so it won't have much of an impact on IlohaMail
for a while. Also, IlohaMail will continue to work with standard POP3
and IMAP servers. But the same way you get more features with IMAP than
you do with POP, you'll get more features and/or better performance if
you use IMIS than you would with IMAP.
Also, I need funding. Anyone have any experiences dealing with venture
