Since installing OS X Mavericks, the client computer shows "Cannot connect to proxy server" when using the proxy created by Privoxy.
It seems everyone upgrading to Mavericks sees this behaviour; it's being investigated under this support ticket: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3615140&group_id=11118&atid=211118#
For now the best advice is to perform a complete uninstall using the uninstall.command file in /Applications/Privoxy and then reinstall from scratch.
Before you do that though, could you run the following command in Terminal and paste the results back here please?
/usr/bin/dscl /Local/Default -read /users/_privoxy
It'll help us help out others!
When I run this: /usr/bin/dscl /Local/Default -read /users/_privoxy
I get this: <dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14136 (eDSRecordNotFound)
That tells me what I'd figured - the Mavericks upgrade deletes the _privoxy account.
So then, the solution should be to use /Applications/Privoxy/uninstall.command to entirely remove all trace of Privoxy (though you should be able to keep your configuration files when asked, if you've made your own tweaks), then reinstall it from scratch.
Please do follow up and let me know if that works for you.
Yup! Uninstalling and Reinstalling worked for me. Fortunately I backed up my configuration file, as the reinstall seemed to delete the previous one.
Thanks for the followup Liam, good to know!
