If you are used to Midnight Commander and like it, you might try FileRunner. It's a two-pane graphical file manager written in Tcl/Tk and is fast and very configurable. Another of similar type, though perhaps not as powerful is emelfm. It uses the GTK+ widget set, so it would fit in with Gnome/GTK apps you might use. If your used to OS/2, you might try DFM. It works well with IceWM and adds the ability to drop files, folders and apps onto your desktop. If you go with DFM, do yourself a favor and get a RPM package (assuming your distro uses RPM's). If your used to M$ Windows Exploder ;-) you might try Kruiser or XWC. Both are very familiar to ex-Windose users. There are many others. TkDesk, Gentoo, xfm, etc. To get an idea, just log on to www.freshmeat.net and click through appindex->X11->File managers to get a list of most of the ones available. Look at some screenshots, and pick one you'd like. Me, I use DFM with IceWM 1.0.4 for most of my normal file handling, etc. For the really down and dirty stuff I've found nothing to beat FileRunner. The nice thing about Linux is your not stuck with one file manager. And as for your Windoze friends, at least you'll never see "Explorer caused a GFP and will be shut down"! Happy Hunting!
