Let me guess, Redhat 8 or 9 and Perl 5.8.0? If so, you have a broken Redhat/Perl combination. You need to tell Redhat not to use a UTF-8 locale. You can do that by setting LANG: export LANG=en_US Or you can edit /etc/sysconfig/i18n and make the change permanent. Google for more details. -sam |
