Have you checked your web server logs to see whether this is a problem
with that, or with htdig? (I presume that both are on the same box?) If
you have the relevant logging enabled for htdig then that too will
reveal any errors.

Both on the same box, yes.
No errors in the logs at that time.

ht/dig throws no errors. Everything works just fine. Except for the
fact that -- when ht/dig does it's thing -- NOBODY can connect to the
Apache server anymore.
