I don't think ensuring full portability in some areas has been at the top
of my list for the 3.2 development. That may seem short-sighted, but I'd
rather see certain gaping holes fixed (e.g. query parser, mifluz) before
going full-bore at the need for additional configure tests.
That's beside the point.
Unfortunately, the whole *stream.h header issue seems to be a real
quagmire on the systems I've seen. IIRC, ostream.h doesn't exist on some
platforms, iostream.h doesn't exist on others.... So clearly a simple
check for the appropriate header file is needed. I'll add that to the
3.1.6 configure script in a moment.
