Before getting into the `-dev' part of my post, let me `breifly' explain
We are trying to index some pages on our intranet, and some of them use
NTLM based authentication. (I'd love to change that, but unfortunately
it's beyond my control.) The obvious implication is that htdig can't
fetch files from those sites.
We already _have_ two solutions. Either to use a proxy which knows NTLM
authentication, or to download the whole thing using some other means (I
used cURL for that) and run another instance of the site for htdig using
the downloaded file. Both approaches have serious problems. We use the
latter for the time being.
We are planning to implement a `real' solution. Hence, this post.
We see two possibilities.
- To add a feature to htdig so that it can use an external program to
- To implement NTLM in htdig.
IMHO, the former is the much better solution. Would be great if we can
hear some comments before we start working on it.
Thanks in advance - and of course for your time if you read all the way
down to see this. ;-)

Have you looked into the external transport support in 3.2.0b5?
and contrib/handler.pl in the 3.2.0b5 source tree.
