I cannot locate a good open source tool to spell check
an entire site. There are for-pay services, but who
htdig already crawls my site, makes a database of pages
and records the words found on each page. How hard
would it be to include an optional spellcheck package
that would take the words found on a page, test them
using GNU Aspell and then make a report page with the
misspelled words found.
Although there are several open source search engines,
there are not a lot of options for an open source
regular spell-check report for a Web site. Adding this
feature would add a "killer feature" that is very
likely to attract more users of htdig.
Since most of the coding is already done by htdig and
GNUspell (htdig spider and GNU Aspell spell checking)
so the reporting piece seems pretty small.
The spell-check service I identified costs ~ $500 per
year. I'd be willing to pay the $500 to a programmer
who provided this feature in a futrure version of
plug-in for htdig.
Thanks for considering this request,
