If I am using hsqldb (1.6.1) in a commerical product, what do I have to do to comply with the license? Note, I haven't made any modification to the source.

    • Here is the text of the license for most of the classes of the hsqldb product presently:

So, you must say somewhere in your product and on 'All advertising materials mentioning features or use of this software must display the following acknowledgment: "This product includes Hypersonic SQL." '

Safest: in your advertising and features docs state: " This product includes Hypersonic SQL. " and, in a file folder or directory, include the above license in its entirety. That'll keep you safe. BTW: 'advertising materials' includes Web pages, if they mention the database or persistence features of your product and those features are dependent on or include functionality from either Hypersonic SQL (hsql) or hsqldb.

Sorry to take so ling to reply.

    • I just want to make sure I am following the licensing rules correctly.  I have a whitepaper that refers to the HSQL Database Engine, as it ships with our product.  Do I need to insert the license text above (for Hypersonic and HSQL) into my document?  Please advise.  Thanks!

Yes, you should include the above text in your documentation. You should also comply with the condition that states:

      * - All advertising materials mentioning features or use of this software must display the
      * following acknowledgment: "This product includes Hypersonic SQL."
