i tried to get the hp3400c to work with the kernel2.6.9 and libusb (because there is no usb-scanner module any more)
Nov 18 18:09:28 localhost kernel: usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using address 9
Nov 18 18:09:28 localhost kernel: usb 3-1: device descriptor read/all, error -84
Nov 18 18:09:29 localhost kernel: usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using address 10
Nov 18 18:09:29 localhost kernel: usb 3-1: device descriptor read/8, error -84
does anyone know what this means / how to fix this?
(there does no scanner description appear in /proc/bus/usb/devices)
There has been a problem with kernels < 2.6.8.
I testest 188.8.131.52 and my scanner was ok. It is a 4300C that showed the same unfriendly behavior with 2.6 kernels as the 3400c type was detected by the kernel - lsusb listed the device. The USB-code in the later kernels was fixed - I thought.
Did your scanner work before?
Which system (distro) are you using and if it worked, which kernel version did you use?
