I don't know of any tool called 3DHIV. I do know of a few different sites where there are "tutorials" or similar things which launch standard JAVA applications such as JMOL to view HIV protein structures.
but all of them are currently working with modern versions of JAVA and most web browsers I can test drive such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.
Can you tell me what the URL is for 3DHIV?

It works fine under MAC OS-X and Frirefox, which is the only set-up I can test right now.
I suggest you contact Dan if you have found a bug in 3DHIV, or the authors of JMOL (or whatever is driving the site), if the bug is in their part of the process. This is not a HIV Databases tool.

Hi - I'm surprised that you find this this error. I too am using Mac OS 10.4.11 (PPC, 1.5 GB RAM) and the 3DHIV viewer launches with no problem.
If you are able to find a more detailed java error log, could you possibly send that? Without more detail, it's very difficult to guess what might be happening.

I GOOGLED [Dan Stowell 3DHIV] and located a JAVA driven (probably using JMOL or something very similar) web page:
