I have found the following links for running a frontend / wrapper.
I don't have the knowledge to do it, but am working my way there, anyone have terminal skills want to try it?
Using Gtk+, it may be possible to run a script which creates acts as a frontend.
1. Install Fink <url>http://fink.sourceforge.net/download/index.php</url>
2. Install Gtk+ <url>http://developer.imendio.com/wiki/Gtk_Mac_OS_X/Building_with_fink</url>
3. Download and configure the script for your printer <url>http://www.j5studios.com/projects/gtkp_escputil/</url>
Using <url>http://127.0.0.1:631/printers</url> it should be possible to see the direct link to the printer for the script.
