J.L., what you say is true provided you are quite sure your sources have not been corrupted. In my case, I believed the sources I had downloaded, and which bitbake had worked on, could be corrupted. I had nothing you might call proof except the shasum mismatches and the certainty that Redhat's version of patch has trouble operating on legacy code. Given that the sources are always there on the internet, and that I have a fast internet connection available, and that I hadn't gone even 10-15% of the way through the build action, I elected to delete my sources directory and start fresh.
