Hi Zach, You may like to look in your overo-oe/org.openembedded.dev/conf directory for some hints. Many preferred versions are controlled by the distro.; in my case, distro/include/angstrom-2008-preferred-versions.inc controls many of the default choices. The r51 seems to come from the omap3.inc file in machine/include. It is possible to set the PROVIDES variable to whatever you like. Inheriting certain classes, notably the kernel.bbclass explictly sets PROVIDES += "virtual/kernel".
