Hi Justin, Have you tried the qc-usb recipe that's already in the gumstix-oe tree? I've not tried it myself but running 'bitbake qc-usb-messenger' should at least attempt to build it :) This assumes that you've got a working OE setup already... if you don't you can follow the getting started instructions at gumstix.net to get one going.
